한국인 국제관계 교수 인종차별로 시카고 대학을 소송 - SFKorean 뉴스 - 로컬 뉴스

정치학과 국제관계학(International relations)전공으로 재직중인 최승환(52세)교수는 시카고대학에서 자신의 전공과 무관한 한국정치를 강의하라는 학교측에 반발해 지난 3일(화)에 시카고대학을 상대로 인종차별 소송을 제기했다.

최 교수는 "정치학과 학과장인 데니스 주드가 한국에서 태어나고 성장했다는 이유로 정식 교육을 받지도 않은 자신에게 한국 정치학을 가르치라는 요구가 부당했다"면서 "본인이 일본과 한국의 정치에 관해 알고있는 유일한 것은 신문과 교과서를 통해 지식을 습득한 것"이라고 말했다.

또한 그는 시카고 트리뷴과의 인터뷰에서 "그들은 한인을 좋아하지 않는다. 나는 백인계 미국인 학과장에게 복종해야한다"고 말했다

최씨는 '자격이 없는 동료들은 임금이 인상되고, 전임 교수직으로 승진했으나 본인은 부서장들의 끊임없는 괴롭힘을 받았다'고 주장했다.

최 교수는 소송을 통해 징벌적 손해배상을 청구할 예정이나 금액은 추후 결정하겠다고 밝혔다.
