미주 한인 봉사단체 화랑 청소년재단(박윤숙 총재, www.hwarang.org) 실리콘밸리 지부는 지난 2월 21일 약 250여명의 인원이 온라인 줌으로 참석한 가운데 제1회 실리콘밸리 비젼 페스티벌을 성황리에 개최했다.

화랑 실리콘밸리 멤버들의 태권도, K-POP 댄스, 클래식 연주, 부채춤과 검무, 난타 등 다양한 공연이 함께 한 이번 행사는 화랑 멤버들이 화합과 기부의 의미를 배우고 지역사회에 나누는 뜻깊은 자리가 되었다.

이날 행사에는 샌프란시스코 윤상수 총영사, UN피스코 정승덕 부의장, 실리콘밸리한인회 박승남 회장과 화랑 청소년의 IT 커미티의 멘토인 K-Group 김유승 회장 등 각계 인사들이 참석하여 청소년들에게 축하 메세지를 전했고 스파크숏 윈드의 디렉터인 에드윈 창과 아쿠베이 클리닉의 리간 최(Dr. Regan Choi)는 초청 연사로써 청소년들을 위한 뜻깊은 강연을 진행했다.

화랑 비젼 페스티벌을 통한 수익금은 과테말라 등 안질환 수술이 필요한 어려운 이웃에게 전액 기부될 예정이다.

Hwarang Silicon Valley Hosts First Vision Festival

On February 21, Hwarang Silicon Valley (SV), a Korean-American youth volunteer organization in the Bay Area, held its first annual Vision Festival to fundraise for its eye camp in Guatemala, which helps locals by giving them access to eye surgery. The festival reinforced the idea that Hwarang Silicon Valley exists to serve communities all around the world, not just the ones in its area.

Hwarang Silicon Valley is a branch of a youth volunteer organization called Hwarang Youth Foundation, founded in LA with 208 members. Today, Hwarang is a large international organization that has over 6,500 active members distributed amongst 47 districts in 11 countries.

The Vision Festival hosted by Hwarang Silicon Valley was run by two MCs: Stephen Kwak, the district chairperson of Hwarang SV, and Eunwoo Kim, the vice president of Hwarang Global Links Committee.

Attendees of the Festival enjoyed the performance videos of Korean heritage and culture. There were Nanta (a Korean traditional drum performance), Gumu (a traditional Sword dance), Taekwondo, K-Pop, and even a raffle run by Kevin Kang(Cupertino Chapter President) and Rachel Kim(Cupertino Chapter PR).

Many important guests also attended the Festival and shared their valuable insights about important topics like Korean identity, community service, plans in life and others. We would like to thank every guest for their support and care: Dr. Howard Park (Founder of Hwarang), Ms. Sarah Park (the President of Hwarang), Mr. Sang-Soo Yoon (Consul General of Korean Consulate General in San Francisco), Mr. Seung Duck Chang (President of UN PEACEKOR San Francisco), Mr. Sean Park(President of SV Korean American Federation), Mr. Yu-Seung Kim (President of Bay-Area K-Group), Mr. Edwin Chang (Writer and Director of the Sparkshort “Wind”), Dr. Regan Choi (Acubay Clinician), Dr. Miseok Jun (Seongnam Youth Foundation) and Ms. Sung Sohn (Education for Social Justice Foundation).

We thank each guest for their valuable words of advice. The Vision Festival was a huge success, with 250 attendees and several thousand dollars raised for the Eye Camp. The raffle tickets sold by Hwarang members played a key role in the fundraiser and was a source of fun for everyone.

The hard work and dedication of the Hwarang members clearly made the event possible. The event preparation has been eye-opening for many as everyone benefited from gaining increased understanding of Korean culture and collaborative work. We hope the next year’s Festival will happen in-person and is filled with more creative and diverse events.

제 1회 화랑 실리콘밸리 비젼 페스티벌 개최하다.

화랑 실리콘밸리 지부에서 2월 21일 제 1회 비젼 페스티벌을 개최 하였다. 화랑은 비영리 청소년단체로 11개국 47개 지부, 6,500명의 회원이 있는 글로벌 단체로, 정체성과 리더십을 위해 엘에이에서 2006년 208명으로 시작한 청소년 단체이다. 비젼 페스티벌은 과테말라에 의료 혜택을 받지 못하여 힘들어 하는 사람들에게 수술과 치료 봉사를 위한 이벤트이다.

LA에서 매해 개최되는 비젼 페스트벌이며 2월 21일 실리콘밸리 지부에서는 처음으로 치러졌으며 스테판 곽(실리콘벨리 디스트릭 회장)과 김은우(글로벌링스 커미티 부회장)의 진행으로 개최되었다. COVID-19으로 인해 온라인으로 개최되었지만 250명이 참가하며 성공적인 개최를 마치게 되었다. 이를 통해 들어온 수익금은 과테말라 지역 주민에게 의료 혜택을 주는데 도움이 될 것 이다.

페스티벌 공연은 한국 문화의 전통인 난타(한국의 전통 드럼 퍼포먼스), 검무(전통 검춤), 태권도, 부채춤, 장구춤, K-Pop댄스와 오케스트라 연주등의 공연과 강지훈(Kevin Kang, 쿠퍼치노 쳅터 회장)과 레이첼 김(쿠퍼치노 쳅터 PR)의 알찬 래플 추첨 진행으로 재미를 더했다.

또한, 초청인사 분들께서 해주신 한국인의 정체성, 지역사회 봉사, 삶의 계획 등 중요한 주제에 대해 강연을 들을 수 있는 소중한 시간이었다. 제 1회 비젼 페스티벌에 함께 해주신 박윤숙 총재, 윤상수 총영사, UN피스코 정승덕 샌프란시스코 회장, 박승남 실리콘밸리 한인회 회장, 사라 박 회장, 청소년의 IT 커미티의 멘토인 K-Group 김유승 회장, 에드윈 창(Writer and Director of the Sparkshort ‘Wind’), 아쿠베이 클리닉(AcuBay)의 리간 최., 성남 청소년 재단 전미석 박사, 사회 정의 교육 재단 손성숙 대표님들께 무한한 감사의 말씀을 드린다.

제 1회 비젼 페스티벌을 개최하면서 그것을 통해 화랑 리더들도 여러 펀드레이징과 공연 준비등과 함께 온라인 진행을 하면서 리더십과 봉사 정신을 배울 수 있는 좋은 경험이 되었을 것이다. 이를 통해 그리고 초청인사 분들의 조언이 화랑 리더들에게 삶의 도움이 되길 바라며 이벤트 개최에 도움 주신 모든 분들의 노력과 헌신에 감사의 인사를 드린다.

내년에는 온라인이 아닌 오프라인으로 좀더 다양하고 풍성한 이벤트가 진행되길 바란다.
