KALYP 학생회원 유엔 지정 '세계 평화의 날' 행사 참가 - SFKorean 뉴스 - 로컬 뉴스

유엔이 지정한 '세계 평화의 날' 행사가 지난 9월 18일 레이크 체봇 지역 공원(Lake Chabot Regional Park)에서 열렸다. 오전 10시부터 거행된 이번 행사에는 청소년 리더쉽 프로그램(KALYP CEO 유니스 이)소속 학생회원과 학부모 등 25명이 대거 참가해 행사를 도왔다. 

'세계 평화의 날' 행사는 1981년 유엔결의안으로 채택된 이래 매년 각 나라 및 지역의 평화를 수호하고 상징하는 지구촌 축제 행사로 매년 열리고 있다.

올해 주제는 '공평하고 지속가능한 세상을 위해 보다 나은 회복' (Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world)으로 코로나 팬데믹에서 보다 나은 회복을 위해 어떻게 서로 도울 것인지와 보다 공평하고 지속 가능하며 건강한 세상을 만들지에 대해 관심을 가지고 논의하기도 했다.

호각(동물뼈로 된 나팔)을 불면서 시작된 행사에는 이스트베이 지역 공원국 책임자인 사브라인 랜드레트, 유엔협회 미국 위원인 멜린다 하워드 등 각계 각층의 인사들이 참여했다. 이어진 행사에는 학생들과 각계 인사들의 평화 염원 글 낭독과 평화 기원 노래 공연도 있었다.

행사 중간에는 올해 주제를 가지고 소그룹으로 나누어 열띤 토의를 하며 각자의 의견을 나누기도 했다. 

또한 이스트베이 공원국 데니스 웨스피이사의 선언을 필두로 모든 참여자들이 공원내에서 행진하며 세계 평화의 날 의미를 되새겼다.

행사 뒷청소는 학생들이 협조하여 마무리 했으며 서로 더욱더 끈끈한 인연을 맺는 시간을 가지기도 하였다.

KAYLP 학생들은 이 행사를 통해 세계 각국 사람들의 의견과 뜻을 들을수 있어 기뻤다고 한다. 또한 세계 평화를 상징하는 행진 참여의 의미를 두었다.

On Saturday, September 18th from 10:00 AM to 1:15 PM, we, the 25 members of KAYLP, attended 2021 International Day of Peace hosted at Lake Chabot Regional Park. This event is held annually and this is the fourth year celebrating the World Peace Day at the Park District.

Before the event started, we arrived, setup our area and began the day with a quick introduction between members. Once the event started, we watched the community come together in unity to express their gratitude and appreciation for the International Day of Peace — in the forms of many heartfelt speeches and performances, and an artwork unveiling; all of which were presented by people of all ethnic backgrounds and age.

After our quick lunch, and subsequent walk, it was our honor to attend the ceremony, and the unveiling of the new art — and by volunteering at the event by cleaning up and handing out commemorative items to attendees, the event ran more smoothly and was more memorable.

There was sharing of messages/prayers, songs, and reflections on ways to better recover for an equitable and sustainable world. Our active collaboration and empathy is needed in these difficult times to build a world of peace, understanding, respect, equity, and safety for all peoples. We were proud to attend the unveiling of a 12-foot PEACE POLE — a symbol of the hopes and dreams of the global family for Peace on Earth. In the end, we all came to reflect on this enjoyable day and also debriefed on our next volunteering event— which undoubtedly we will enjoy just as much.
